Time Management Freedom & Flexibility: How to Pave Your Own Way featuring Chelsea Petersen

Ever feel like that traditional time management advice doesn’t work for you? There’s a reason why - it’s not supposed to! While they may be great generic pieces of advice, they don’t exactly help you find what works best for your schedule.

Chelsea Petersen

Chelsea Petersen has found freedom and flexibility in her schedule. But what does freedom and flexibility on your calendar look like to you?

Is it taking more time off work to spend time with your kids and make sure you’re at every single game? Is it allowing yourself to travel often to places you love? Or how about simply resting and relaxing a little bit more than you normally do?

Whatever that looks like to you, today’s guest is going to give you some great insight on how you can manage your time effectively and get work done without compromising your personal life!

Allow me to introduce you to Chelsea Petersen, real estate agent turned business owner who teaches other real estate professionals how to attract the clients they want on social media with a personality-infused approach.

And when she’s not doing that, you can find her enjoying a glass of wine and traveling around the world with her husband — something she spent years working towards by finding freedom through a customized time-management approach.

Let’s take a look at what Chelsea Petersen and I discussed and how you, too, can take time often to enjoy the things you love!

How Chelsea uses social media as her #1 marketing tool

While social media can feel pretty daunting to many of us, Chelsea likes to approach it from the positive side. She feels that social media should be viewed as a way to warm up to your audience and build relationships with new people while fostering connections with people you already know.

She brought up a great point, too — it’s the best way to warm a cold lead, and we have such an advantage in 2023 with all these social tools at our disposal. We don’t have to worry about feeling icky by going door-to-door or popping a postcard in the mailbox of someone we don’t even know in hopes that they might be interested in what we have to offer.

Chelsea says social media should feel like you are sitting down with a good friend over a glass of wine while getting high-quality advice. Instead of talking at you, she wants to talk with you. And she believes social media helps her do it!

Another reason Chelsea loves social media so much? Because as a realtor, it gave her more freedom and flexibility with her schedule. She found working nights and working around her family’s schedules was much easier when she had the flexibility to do so.

And she found that it made a pretty darn good way to grow her own business. So, she grabbed a hold of that power and has now cultivated it in a way that allows her to teach other real estate agents the same through her Modern Agent Membership

How Chelsea Petersen manages her time

Throughout this shift, Chelsea says she really learned how important traveling is for her, and she wanted to create a business that could help her do that. And it goes without saying, but, to get this all done, she had to find a time management practice that worked for her.

Chelsea Petersen’s tactical approach

To manage her time effectively, Chelsea and her team use ClickUp to keep everything managed and up-to-date. However, she also has a really good sticky-note strategy that helps her stay focused too.

Okay, I know what you’re thinking…I always say, “Sticky notes aren’t a strategy,” but in this case, they are! And it’s because she’s not relying on it as her main form of organization.

She supplements a more comprehensive plan with these sticky notes. She’ll write down her goals for the day. Then, she’ll stick them to her desktop, and rip them off one by one as she completes them. How satisfying is that?

Managing expectations and quieting comparisons

Through her time as a business owner, Chelsea has learned that success is a journey. What’s more important than hitting these crazy-big milestones you see on social media? Enjoying your day-to-day life.

If what you’re doing is working for you, then don’t worry about how others are doing it. It’s okay to assess what’s on your plate. Prioritize what’s most important in your life right now rather than just taking a one-size-fits-all approach to your schedule.

Chelsea Petersen’s Shifting perspective

And one of the biggest reasons she’s been able to do this? Some change in perspective.

Chelsea says when she feels overwhelmed, she has to remind herself that it’s part of the job. You can absolutely pivot. However, you have to also learn to find moments of peace and contentment in the middle of these moments.

Instead of focusing on everything, focus on the things that are most important to you. Then, (realistically) adjust your schedule accordingly.
